Transportation Disadvantaged

Most of us take our mobility for granted. But for some, transportation is a major obstacle to overcome. These citizens depend on paratransit service for trips to work, school and health care.

The Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged serves as the policy setting board that is legislatively responsible for coordinating transportation disadvantaged services. For more information, visit the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged web site.

Polk County Transit Services is the provider of transportation services door-to-door for the transportation disadvantaged persons in this area. To determine eligibility, call (863) 534-5500. For more information, visit the Polk County Transit Services web site.

The Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board’s purpose is to help identify local service needs and to provide information, advice, and direction to the Community Transportation Coordinator (CTC) on the coordination of services to be provided to those individuals who, because of physical or mental disability, income status, or age are unable to transport themselves or to purchase transportation and are therefore dependent on others to obtain access to health care, employment, education, shopping, social activities, or other life sustaining activities, or to children who are handicapped, high risk or at risk.
